Sex Myth Monday: Bigger Doesn't Equal Better
This is a sex myth that is so prevalent in our society we commonly use it to make a powerful metaphor. "Pissing contest" or "biggest balls" comes up as a colorful way to describe machismo. I found there was a lot of truth to the adage that "It isn't the size of the boat but the motion of the ocean." After all, the brain is said to be the most powerful sex organ and what is the most sexy trait in either male or female? Confidence. That is pretty difficult to muster if you are fretting about your small penis, isn't it? So what is the truth?!
Size Matters, but Only a Little Bit...
The average penis when erect stands at 7'' but the average vagina is 3'' deep. I may have failed my math class senior year but I can still figure out that this means most heterosexual men have nothing to worry about. If your penis is longer than 4'' there is no need for you to worry about its length whatsoever.
However, many women favor penises that will maximize stimulation of their G-spot. This does concern the shape. A prominent ridge, or the v-shaped area below the head of the penis can become very engorged when the penis is erect. If protruding it will provide extra stimulation to the inside of the vagina. This is only true of circumcised men, however. What is true of ALL penises is that whether they curve upwards or downwards they can also be of service in the same way. Upwards - get her on her back. Downwards - flip her around into doggy style. This will increase your chances at hitting her in the right spot. A wide head and a thick shaft are a winning combo as well for the same reason.
Bigger isn't always better. A big penis can cause a woman pain during sex and can make oral sex an especially tedious chore. Anal sex? Don't even ask. Remember the man with the biggest penis, Jonah Falcon, is 41 years old and lives with his mom. He is 9'' when flaccid and 13.5'' when erect. His giant schlong hasn't brought him any happiness, in fact, he was stopped at the airport this Summer when a TSA agent mistook his penis for a weapon.
Why Size Came to Matter...
Evolution. Monkeys.
So while I often turn my eyes skyward and thank heaven I was not made with my sexual reproductive system made on the outside of my body. Gordon Gallup of State University of New York, however, calls the penis "an impressive tool in the truest sense of the word." This evolutionary psychologist and experimental researcher went on a quest to find out why the one-eyed snake looks the way it does today.
Most primates have penises half the size of humans both in length and girth. They also lack the distinctive "mushroom" head human penis glands comprise or in other words, they're all shaft. Upon reviewing magnetic imaging studies of heterosexual couples having sex it was found that the penis expands the vagina to completely fill it and can even make contact with her cervix. Gallup asserts that human penis length as well as its ability to shoot semen is to give couples trying to conceive a maximum advantage. He also credits the shape of the penis' glands as having the ability to rid the vagina of the sperm of other men in order to increase chances of one's own paternity. Due to this shape a man can scoop out left over sperm from within his partner's vagina. This isn't just a theory of Gallup's but something he has proven through clinical trials using phallus of different shapes and sizes. The phallus with the largest ridge was able to displace the most semen while sealing in its own next to the cervix especially when using deep thrusts.
Kinda yucky... but you can imagine with how important the ability to father children is to the idea of "manhood." The biology of the penis has shaped itself to reflect the values of our species.
The Only Thing That Really Matters...
... is having an enjoyable sexual experience.
As mentioned, women prefer a penis that will please her G-spot. Well friends, this spot is only 1-2 inches within her opening. The G-spot is basically the female equivalent to the prostate gland and swells up with stimulated. It is about the size of a quarter and credited for some of the most deepest and pleasurable of all female orgasms. It isn't the biggest penises that are best at hitting this spot either.
If you have a huge penis and you think I have been down on you this whole time... well there is a spot in the vajay for you too! Its called the Anterior Fornix Erogenous Zone, AFE zone for short, or A-spot, for even shorter. This spot's discovery is credited to Malaysian doctor Chua Chee Ann. He was studying vaginal dryness but opined the cure was as simple as stimulating this spot. While being rumored for producing orgasms on par to that of the G-spot the A-spot is best known for the amount of lubrication stimulating it is able to produce. Evolutionary biologists have theorized this is a mechanism to protect women from tearing by preparing their bodies to accommodate large penises. This theory has yet to be so diligently researched as Gallup's penis study was.
